Chris has had the pleasure of working as an actor for twenty-five years, in which time he has been fortunate enough to play various roles on TV in the UK, upwards of thirty radio plays for BBC Radio 4 and a wide array of roles in theatre, nationally and internationally.
Regarding the classics especially, Chris has played many roles, the highlights of which are having the absolute privilege of portraying the title role of Macbeth, Prospero in The Tempest, Iago in Othello. He is very proud to have being part of Andrew Hilton’s highly acclaimed, award winning Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory theatre company ensemble since its inception in 2000, enjoying such roles. With this wonderful company, apart from some of the roles above, he has played Autolycus in The Winter’s Tale, Launce in Two Gentlemen of Verona, Stephano in The Tempest, Pompey in Measure For Measure, Tranio in The Taming of the Shrew, Puck and Bottom in their two productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lollio in Middleton and Rowley’s The Changeling, Diomedes in Troilus and Cressida and is at present playing Pistol in the acclaimed production of Henry V. He has also appeared consistently in leading contemporary roles both in London, in rep and various tours.
Chris has gained much experience working extensively in schools and universities and presently runs the Education/Outreach arm of Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory. He teaches Acting and Voice on a freelance basis and directs/teaches at his old drama school, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School when available and is about to embark on his final year of a part-time master’s degree course in Creative Writing.
